The 2020 Student Design Competition has concluded!

Thank you to all students who entered the inaugural PADS Professional Student Design Competition. We received more than 150 student entry registrations!

We are proud to announce that Alessandro Mattioli, a Master’s Electronics Engineering student from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy), is the WINNER of this year’s competition. Alessandro’s “SimpLinux” single-board PC design with Linux support via USB port was truly a professional-level design. Although there were several “well done” design entries, the judges felt Alessandro’s was an excellent combination of multi-layer design complexity and best-practice PCB design while utilizing the full capabilities of PADS Professional to get the job done. For example, signals were adjacent to a plane. There was generally low mounting inductance for capacitors. And DDR2 DRAM connections were laid out per design guidelines with trace length matching. Overall, nice job!

“PCB Design Excellence” certificates are also being mailed to the Top-10 finalists.

Coming February 2021: We are already planning for the 2021 Student Design Competition! We expect more entries and bigger prizes. Are you up for the challenge? Stay tuned for coming announcements!
